Full Description

Traces of medieval ridge and furrow were recorded at this location in April 2014, during magnetometry survey of land off Cliff Road, Welton. The remains were identified as faint, linear magenetic anomalies, aligned on a roughly north to south axis. {1} Traces of the north to south aligned ridge and furrow in this area were recorded during subsequent trial trenching, conducted in September 2014. Whilst only one of the recorded furrow and ditch-like features could be dated by pottery finds to the medieval and early post-medieval periods, all of the other identified features were thought to relate to similar agricultural activity and may be contemporary (see PRN 56668). {2}{3}
