Description

Seven trial trenches were excavated to inform proposed residential development on land off Cliff Road and Heath Lane, Welton. The trenches were targeted to investigate a number of geophysical anomalies recorded by a prior magnetometry survey (see ELI12382). Traces of medieval and early post-medieval ridge and furrow were confirmed in the eastern part of the site, along with a number of undated pits and ditches of likely similar agricultural origin. The trenching also resolved a relatively large area of strong magnetic variation as being modern disturbance. {1}{2}
