Full Description

A number of zones of magnetic variation, thought to indicate groupings of former pits of uncertain date, were identified in March 2015, during a magnetometry survey conducted on land at Beckside Farm, Osgodby. The recorded magnetic anomalies were relatively strong, which may indicate a possible association with former industrial activity in this area, although could also reflect a more recent origin for the features. {1} Further investigation of the archaeology in this area took place in 2016-2017, prior to the construction of 3 new recreational lakes. The remains of seven, shallow cut pit-like features were found in the area where the lakes were being built. No finds or dating material were found in any of the features, however, and their exact date or function remains uncertain. A natural or modern origin for the features could not be discounted. {2}{3}
