Description
An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Neville Hall, Consultant, in June 2009, during groundworks associated with the construction of a grain storage and drying facility at Ketsby House Farm, Ketsby Lane, Ketsby. The project involved the monitoring of excavations for 34 stanchion bases and a service trench. Modern demolition and makeup material was found to extend throughout the majority of the pits, overlying soils whose top horizon must have represented the former ground level. Concrete surfaces and layers of compacted chalk (probably modern) were noted in pits on the southern side of the development, while brick and breeze block footings belonging to recently demolished modern buildings were noted in others. An undated pit (PRN 48230) was the only feature of potential archaeological interest. {1}{2}
