Description

Eleven trial trenches (originally, ten were planned) were excavated in advance of a possible extension of the existing quarry. Archaeological features were identified in each trench, representing a thin but even spread of activity. These features included a Middle Iron Age storage pit and ditch, a v-shaped ditch which may be part of a Roman marching camp and a number of undated, but probably early, features. {1}{2}
