Description

A geophysical survey was undertaken on land at South Witham Quarry. A topsoil susceptibility survey of the whole site did not identifiy any clear evidence of archaeology. However, a later gradiometer survey recorded archaeological features in the mid and eastern parts of the site. These include an enclosure complex with a ring ditch and the continuation of a know Romano-British trackway onto the site from the east. Discrete magnetic anomalies may indicate buried pits, includinf former quarry pits. Widespread ridge and furrow was also recorded.{1}
