Description

Seventeen trial trenches were excavated in advance of a proposed extension to Highfield Quarry, Welton le Marsh. The two enclosure systems identified during previous geophysical surveys were confirmed, with sections of the ditches and associated features being excavated. Recovered finds of late Iron Age pottery indicate a likely date for the enclosure systems. Two flint flakes of late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date were also recovered, and indicate earlier activity in this location. {1}{2}
