Description

An archaeological excavation was conducted to investigate the remains of a Roman ditch, discovered during previous work on land at Baird's Mill, Ermine Street, Ancaster. The excavation recorded further remains of the feature and a number of likely associated linear gullies. Additional fragments of 2nd to 4th century Roman pottery and animal bone were recovered from the fill of the ditch, along with a probably residual fragment from a patera handle. Further traces off the largely demolished, mid 19th century malt house complex that previously occupied the site were also recorded. {1}{2}
