Description

Trial trenching was undertaken on circa 1ha of land prior to proposed development. Eight trenches were positioned to investigate anomalies identified by a previous geophysical survey and by aerial photography, and within the footprint of a proposed building. The trenches were all between 8m and 15m in length, and were 2.3m wide, comprising a 2.75% sample of the site. Trench numbers started at Number 6. A metal detector survey of all trenches and spoil was also undertaken. Romano-British and undated features were encountered as well as post medieval finds. {1}{2}
