Description

Seven trial trenches were excavated on land to the south of the A52, Wrangle, to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development. The trenches were positioned over anomalies previously identified by geophysical survey (see ELI2809). A small group of Late Saxon or Saxo-Norman features was identified in the northwest corner of the site, and further undated (but likely post-Medieval) drainage ditches were revealed across the site. {1}{2} Subsequent archaeological excavation (see ELI14602) revealed four broad phases of activity in the northwest of the site, including Late Saxon and Saxo-Norman farming and shellfish processing before the site was abandoned due to coastal flooding in the 11th century.
