A watching brief was carried out during a programme of work to consolidate the car park structure prior to its reopening. Six geotechnical trial trenches measuring circa 1m by 1m were excavated by the site contractor against the northern internal boundary wall of the lower level of the car park, with no archaeological involvement until archaeological recording took place. The frequency of Roman pottery, brick and tile corroborates the presence of Roman levels below those reached by the excavation.{1}
