A trial pit evaluation was conducted at St Mary's Church, Cowbit, in advance of extensive damp remedial works. Two pits were hand excavated adjacent to the north wall of the church, while a third was excavated in the churchyard approximately 25m to the east of the church. The two test pits adjacent to the church revealed its limestone foundations and a probably later post-Medieval made ground layer to its north. A series of layers of made ground, including a buried soil horizon and five grave cuts, were also noted within the test pit in the churchyard. {1}{2}
