Abstract/Summary
Archive for a trial pit evaluation conducted at St Mary's Church, Cowbit, in advance of extensive damp remedial works. Two pits were hand excavated adjacent to the north wall of the church, while a third was excavated in the churchyard approximately 25m to the east of the church. The two test pits adjacent to the church revealed its limestone foundations and a probably later post-Medieval made ground layer to its north. A series of layers of made ground, including a buried soil horizon and five grave cuts, were also noted within the test pit in the churchyard.
