Description

Ten trial trenches were excavated on land at Godseys Lane, Market Deeping, to inform a proposed residential development. A dense group of features of probable Late Iron Age to Roman date were recorded at the northern end of the site, including pits, postholes and at least two possible boundary ditches. These appear to be associated with the known settlement to the northwest, identified during earlier phases of survey (see ELI8408 and ELI14508). A series of unusual clay ridges was encountered across the site. These were more widely spaced than those associated with ridge and furrow farming and appeared to have been intentionally built up, with no corresponding furrow. Their date and purpose are unknown. A residual Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age flint scraper and Neolithic flint flake were recovered from later features. {1}{2}
