Description

A magnetic susceptibility survey was conducted on three fields to the west of Normanton as part of an assessment of the site by Channel 4's Time Team. Across all three fields, a dense grouping of sub-rectangular enclosures and trackways was encountered. Given their planned rectangular form these were interpreted as Roman in date, and are likely associated with the known Romano-British building in the vicinity (see MLI30297). In the southern field, a less regular group of sub-rectangular and curvilinear enclousures continued past the southern limit of the survey area. These were interpreted as Iron Age in date. Anomalies corresponding to north-south aligned ridge and furrow and possible associated boundary ditches were also encountered throughout the survey area. {1}
