Description

Eight trial trenches were excavated to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development on land at Bourne Road, Morton. A series of undated features comprising a pit and two ditches were identified. The fill of the pit was orange in colour and may have been heat-affected. In the northeast corner of the site, several layers of redeposited natural containing 19th and 20th century finds were revealed. These likely related to the construction of either the nearby A15 or the housing estate directly to the north. An Irish 1/2 d dating to 1727-1760 was recovered from one of these layers, and two small sherds of 15th-16th century pottery were recovered from a small flood deposit. {1}{2}
