Description

An archaeological evaluation, in the form of trial trenching, was carried out in order to provide information about the archaeological deposits present on the site and the assessment of such deposits, to assist in the determination of development proposals. A total of five trial trenches were excavated over an area of circa 370m squared. Four were placed in the cellars of the extant buildings, and one in the rear yard. Trench A = 1.8m by 1.8m; Trench B = 1.9m by 1.8m; Trench C = 3.6m by 2.3m; Trench D = 1.8m by 1.6m: and Trench E = circa 0.9m by 0.9m. On reaching a depth of 1m from the present ground surface, excavation was discontinued, and augering was undertaken.{1} {2}
