Description

Ten trial trenches were excavated to inform proposed road development at the A46 Welton Road Junction, Dunholme. The trenches were targeted to investigate a number of geophysical anomalies recorded by a prior magnetometry survey (see ELI13559), and confirmed some of those anomalies as the remains of archaeological features. These features comprised the heavily truncated remains of probable ridge and furrow, a probable post-medieval trackway with ruts and flanking drainage gullies and an undated pit. A small redeposited assemblage of later post-medieval finds was identified but not retained. {1}{2}
