Description

A third programme of systematic field walking was conducted as part of the community history project to investigate the medieval remains of Sutterby. This phase of field walking targeted the field to the north of the village known as Sutterby Hill Field, and again recovered large quantities of medieval and early post-medieval pottery. The pottery was distributed in a relatively general spread, suggesting it resulted from manuring scatters of agricultural land, although a slight concentration in the northern half of the field was identified. The field walking also recovered a further quantity of prehistoric flints, also distributed in a largely general spread across the site, although was absent from the very northern end of the field. {1}
