Description

A programme of systematic field walking was conducted as part of a community history project to investigate the medieval remains of Sutterby. This phase of field walking targeted the field to the west of the Church of St John the Baptist, and recovered large quantities of medieval and early post-medieval pottery, mostly concentrated in the area to the immediate south-west of the church, along the line of the former road to Harrington. A small quantity of Anglo-Saxon pottery was also recovered during the survey, along with a general spread of prehistoric flints and pottery. {1}
