Description

Two trial trenches were excavated to inform proposed residential development on land off Helpringham Road, Burton Pedwardine. The investigation recorded the remains of medieval activity, including a large number of ditches, several pits and the remains of a possible pond. Finds of pottery ranging in date from the early to late medieval was recovered from the fills of many of these features, along with an assemblage of animal bone, likely representing domestic refuse disposal. A few redeposited artefacts of late Iron Age or early Roman date were also recovered. {1}{2}
