Description
A magnetometry survey was conducted on land at Abbey Field as part of a private research project into the history and archaeology of Pinchbeck parish. A concentration of possible pits and linear features of unknown date was identified in the south-eastern corner of the site. Other magnetic anomalies, thought to reflect the remains of former drains and possible palaeochannels, were also recorded across the site. {1}
Subsequent trial trenching (see ELI14681) confirmed the pits and ditches in the south of the site to be Medieval in origin. The presence of a natural creek or channel and a number of agricultural field boundaries further north was also noted.
