Description

24 trial trenches were excavated to inform the proposed construction of a wind farm on land at Bishopthorpe Farm, Bishopthorpe, Tetney. Evidence of likely medieval saltmaking activity was revealed in the form of a dumped deposit containing a high quantity of fired clay, charcoal and other burnt material. Buried land surfaces, glacial till and former palaeochannels were also recorded across the site, indicating that this area was very conducive to saltmaking activities. {1}{2}
