Report on a small excavation of the moated feature at Mareham le Fen, dug as part of an investigation into its origin. The excavation revealed that the feature likely dated to the late 18th or early 19th century, rather than the previous supposed medieval date, and that it had functioned as a garden feature. The excavation also revealed that a late 19th or early 20th century structure had been built on the island, using material thought to have been taken from the remains of Revesby monastery.
