Title Land at Gonerby Moor, Great Gonerby: Archaeological Evaluation Report
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2014

Abstract/Summary

Archive for a programme of archaeological evaluation comprising eleven trial trenches excavated on land between Gonerby Lane and the A1 at Gonerby Moor, Great Gonerby, to inform the proposed construction of a new solar farm. Only a single archaeological feature, a possible undated ring gully, was encountered in the northern half of the site. Two fire pits or deposits of hearth waste were encountered towards the middle of the site. Most of the identified features were concentrated around a known Roman farmstead in the southeast corner of the site, including a ditch containing limestone block fragments, a possible building foundation truncated by a robber trench, and a large waste pit with a diameter of more than 3m which had been sealed by thin layer of redeposited natural. A probably post-Medieval field boundary was also encountered.
