Abstract/Summary

Report on a fluxgate gradiometer survey was undertaken on land north of Gonerby Lane, Gonerby Moor, to inform proposed development. The surveyed are consisted of three separate field parcels; Field 1 to the south, and Fields 2 and 3 to the northwest and northeast, respectively. Anomalies forming several rectilinear enclosures bounded by ditches were detected in the south east portion of Field 1. The features were identified as a probable settlement, which was partially evaluated by a previous geophysical survey in 2004 (ELI10275). The current survey revealed the full extent of the settlement. Further discrete anomalies aligned north to south were identified immediately to the east, interpreted as pits or areas of burning. Probable ditches and pits were identified in the northern parts of Fields 2 and 3, with further discrete ditches recorded in the north east of Field 3 and south east of Field 2. The survey also identified ridge and furrow and modern disturbances.
