Description

The report on a watching brief that was undertaken at Cecil Francis Business Park, Bear Lane, Pinchbeck. The work was done prior to a proposed development consisting of demolition, change of use and housing constructing. All three plots revealed a buried soil horizon, overlain by a demolition layer and make up deposits likely formed during the construction of the original construction of the business park in the late 20th century. The soil horizon is thought to have originated from an orchard that was present prior to the construction of the business park. 8 sherds of medieval pottery were found within the soil horizon. Clay pipe fragments and animal bone was also uncovered from the same layer, suggesting the sherds were relatively late in date. The sherds are certainly residual and may be the result of manuring.
