Title Land off Dunston Road, Metheringham: Report on the Results of an Archaeological Trial Trench Evaluation
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2021

Abstract/Summary

Archive for a programme of archaeological evaluation comprising twenty trial trenches excavated on land to the west of Dunston Road, Metheringham, to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development. The trenching confirmed the presence of a large north-south aligned rectilinear enclosure previously identified in a geophysical survey of the site (see ELI14088). The enclosure had two smaller sub-enclosures to the south. A drainage or boundary ditch extended to the north from its northeast corner. Iron Age pottery was recovered from the fills of the enclosure ditches. An undated northwest-southeast aligned possible trackway consisting of two parallel ditches was also encountered.
