Abstract/Summary

Report on a magnetometry survey conducted on land adjacent to Langhole Drove, Pinchbeck, as part of a research project for the Pinchbeck History and Archaeology Group. Two areas were surveyed. South of Langhole Drove, two curvilinear linear anomalies were encountered. These were both interpreted as probable former field boundaries or tracks. To the northeast of Manor Farm, a prominent mound rising above the fens was investigated. A northeast-southeast curving to east-west aligned curvilinear feature was encountered along the contour of the mound, most likely representing a former ditch separating the dry higher ground and more marginal ground to the north and west. Within this enclosure was a series of possible pits, ponds, hollows and ditches possibly associated with agricultural activity at Manor Farm, though at least one curvilinear anomaly was considered to be of possible prehistoric date.
