Title Archaeological Watching Brief Report: The Old School, South Ormsby
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2021

Abstract/Summary

Archive for a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording conducted during the groundworks for a drainage pipe and tanks on land at the Old School, South Ormsby. The remains of two brick structures were identified in the centre of the site. Three brick wall foundations of a rectangular east-west aligned building, a brick drain with associated walls, and a possible surface were all recorded. The cobbled material making up the surface suggests it may have been an external yard rather than an internal floor. These remains may correspond to patronage and stable buildings shown on the 1803 Massingberd estate map, within the glebe land associated with St. Leonard’s church.
