Abstract/Summary
Archive for an archaeological excavation conducted on land at Deep Lane, Hagworthingham, to preserve by record archaeological remains prior to the construction of a residential property on the site. A small evaluation trench on the same site (see ELI14034) had previously revealed possible evidence for outbuildings associated with a nearby post-Medieval farmstead, the 'Bournes Homestead' seen on a 1795 enclosure award map. Further evidence for these buildings was encountered, including postholes and rectilinear possible footing trenches, as well as shallow pits containing moderate quantities of demolition material. A large east-west aligned ditch and row of post holes to the south of the excavated area may represent a boundary fence. Two Medieval drainage or boundary ditches was also encountered, suggesting a possible agricultural use for the land during this period.
