Abstract/Summary

Report on a photographic survey of former agricultural outbuildings at Hunters Yard, Horncastle Road, Cabourne, undertaken prior to their conversion to a single residential unit. The surveyed buildings comprise buildings in a U-shape plan form around a small enclosed courtyard with a gated boundary wall to the west. The North and East Ranges are single storey buildings constructed of buff brick in English Garden Wall Bond, under pitched hipped slate roofs, while the South Range is a steel and timber framed building with timber cladding and a pitched gabled corrugated roof. The North Range has a single central arched doorway in its south elevation, with a matching entrance mirroring it to the north. A large double sliding door at the west end of the north elevation may be a later addition. Internally, the building has been divided by steel and breeze block partitions to create a number of pig crates. The East Range has a single central window in the south elevation with a timber ventilation grille, and a matching boarded up window in the north elevation. Its west elevation, facing into the courtyard, has two flat arched stable doors with a large window to the south of each door. Internally it has been divided by low hardboard partitions into two bays. The South Range is a large modern animal barn, open to the rafters. The original southern boundary wall survives and forms the lower half of this barn's south and west elevations.
