Abstract/Summary

Report on an archaeological excavation, conducted following the discovery of a Roman coin hoard on land to the west of Newgate Lane, Londonthorpe. The hoard was found on the 16th of March 2018, and was fully removed and reported to the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (as PAS object LANCUM-F93E5B). The hoard had been discovered in the same location as another Roman coin hoard, found just over 40 years before, in 1976 (see MLI30477). The excavation discovered the remains of a linear Roman boundary ditch, from which the 2018 hoard was thought to have been recovered. Sherds of Roman pottery and animal bone were recovered from the ditch, but no additional coins were found.
