Abstract/Summary

Archive for the archaeological excavation, conducted after human remains were discovered during groundworks for the construction of a new petrol station on land at London Road, Grantham. The excavation identified part of a medieval cemetery, thought to be associated with the medieval hospital at Grantham, dedicated to St Leonard. The skeletal remains of 49 clearly identified individuals were recorded and removed during the excavation. The human remains were the subject of an osteological study, which showed that the cemetery was a mixed one with men, women and children. Three individuals showed evidence of having had leprosy.
