Abstract/Summary

Report on dendrochronological and radiocarbon analysis, conducted of a large bog oak, recovered from a field drain near West Deeping. The timber showed an unusually large number of tree-rings, running from 489 BC to 126 BC, suggesting that the tree died towards the end of the second century BC. Although an entirely natural feature, the investigation of this timber has helped to strengthen the dendrochronological record and provides a good regional comparison for other archaeological timbers.
