Abstract/Summary
Archive for the excavation of seventeen trial trenches, dug to inform the proposed construction of a business park on land at Gwash Valley, Stamford. The trenches were targeted to investigate a number of geophysical anomalies recorded by a prior magnetometry survey (see ELI12939). The trenching confirmed the presence of a number of linear features, with a particular concentration in the south-east corner of the site. The features were thought to represent the remains of former drainage ditches and possible flood defences, adjacent to the River Gwash. Small quantities of Roman artefacts were recovered from the fills of several of the ditches, indicating a Romano-British date for this activity.
