Full Description

A layer of gradually accumulated medieval soil was recorded in January 2012, during the excavation of eleven test pits and three trial trenches on land east of Broadgate, Lincoln. The layer was encountered at a depth of 2m below the current ground level across most of the site. Surmounting this deposit were deep layers of late post-medieval and modern made ground and demolition debris. An assemblage of largely 12th to 16th century pottery and roofing tile was recovered from the occupation layer, along with a fragment of Roman tile and a sherd of late Anglo-Saxon pottery, both redeposited. {1}{2}
