Full Description

Remains of medieval ridge and furrow were noted in this field during a walkover survey, conducted to assess the impact of proposed construction of the Covenham Water Treatment Works to Boston Transfer pipeline. The remains were visible as linear earthworks, aligned on an east to west axis. {1} Further traces of the ridge and furrow in this area were recorded in June 2011, during magnetometry survey along selected parts of the proposed Covenham Water Treatment Works to Boston Transfer pipeline. The remains were identified as a series of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, aligned on an east to west axis. {2} More extensive traces of the ridge and furrow in this location were identified in August 2012, during lidar assessment of the proposed route of a new water pipeline between Miningsby and Boston. The remains were identified as a series of parallel linear earthworks, mostly aligned on a roughly east to west axis, though with a small area aligned roughly north to south. {3}
