Full Description

A programme of historic building recording was conducted in November 2013, for the outbuildings to the rear of the former Lord Nelson public house in Dunholme, prior to their demolition in January 2014. It is unclear exactly when the buildings were originally constructed, though they are thought to date to the early-mid 19th century, and are depicted on the 1844 title map of Dunholme. The outbuildings had already been extensively demolished by the time of the survey, and only fragments of the fabric survived intact. The buildings were comprised of a row of adjoining rooms, constructed in a linear plan, along the northern boundary wall of the former public house. They were largely constructed of limestone rubble, with the exception of the westernmost structure, which was constructed of brick. At the time of the survey, the buildings had a mixture of concrete and tile floors. The outbuildings were thought to have originally served as the brewhouse for the inn, with the westernmost room serving as living quarters for the brewer, though the range was later converted into a shooting range, after the Second World War. {1}{2}
