Full Description

Irby and Bratoft Chapel was built in 1889 to seat 157. The total cost including the land and furnishings was £527 4s 7d. Toilets and a kitchen were added in 1963 for a further £354 9s 6d. The 1905 OS map notes a Sunday School in the chapel, and the Methodist Chapel Committee statistical records from 1940 list one of the two rear rooms as a school hall. The building is of red brick and has a pitched gabled slate roof. The roof tiles were replaced in the 2010s using reclaimed slate. It has brick hood mouldings above the windows, and slate sills. The windows feature tracery and there are numerous decorative butresses. The southern gable end has a course of decorative incised tiles with square fleur-de-lis patterned tiles above, and a stone cross on the ridge. Above the main double doors is an inscribed stone reading "Wesleyan Chapel 1889". {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
