Full Description

Fragments of aircraft debris were recovered during a watching brief in 2013, at Swinderby Sewage Treatment Works, Thurlby. They are thought to derive from the wreckage of an Avro Manchester aircraft, that is reported to have crashed nearby during the Second World War. {1}{2} The remains may be from the Avro Manchester designated L7519 of 50 Squadron, that is known to have crashed near to Thurlby on the 13th of May 1942. Several other aircraft are also recorded as crashing in this general vicinity during the Second World War, however, and this identification remains unconfirmed. {3}
