Full Description

Fieldwalking, conducted as part of a watching brief during the renewal of a water main along the western edge of South Common, revealed a concentration of tile and brick fragments. The majority of the tile was thought to be of 16th century date, though Roman fragments would suggest re-use of earlier material. The finds suggest the presence of a nearby post-medieval building, and some occupation of this part of the common into the 18th century. {1}{2}
