Full Description

Human remains were found on the bank of the River Witham in October 1996. An investigation of these remains was subsequently conducted by CLAU, on behalf of Lincolnshire Police. After intial cleaning of the site, a small excavation was dug to recover the remains, and investigate their deposition. The material comprised a skull, two long bones and a pelvis bone. No evidence for a grave cut could be identified, and it remained uncertain if the remains were still in situ, or had been disturbed by the river. The bones were in a relatively good state of preservation, though some damage had occurred after their initial deposition. The remains were not dated, but it was thought that they had been deposited sometime prior to the 1940's. {1}{2}
