Full Description

Layers of 17th to 19th century made ground were revealed in April 2012, during archaeological monitoring on land at the former Bacon Factory, St Marks Street, Lincoln. A small assemblage of post-medieval pottery and clay pipe fragments were recovered. {1}{2} The layers of post-medieval made ground were confirmed in June 2013, during subsequent archaeological monitoring of groundworks for the construction of a new seven-storey building on land at St Mark Street, Lincoln. The monitoring confirmed the made ground layers to a depth of at least 1.7m on the site, but encountered no archaeological features or finds. {3}{4}
