Full Description

The churchyard at the Church of St Leonard is depicted on the 2nd edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map. It likely dates to at least the 14th century, when the church it serves was built (see PRN 41376). {1} The remains of two inhumation burials were recorded in October 2012, during archaeological monitoring of the creation of new pathways within the churchyard. The burials were identified with the remains of probable 19th century coffins in both casees and comprised the remains of an adult and an infant. Both burials were left in situ at the bottom of the trenches, but a small quantity of disarticulated human remains was recovered for later re-interment. {2}{3}
