Full Description

These 19th century buildings form part of a group of dwellings on the west side of Worngate and are located close to other buildings of a similar date, many of which have now been converted to commercial use with shops at ground floor level. This attached pair of buildings, at 50 and 50a Wormgate, are modest brick dwellings with slate roofs and continue in domestic use (2011). The two dwellings form an almost matching pair of single bay, two-storey houses, each with a six-panel door below a rectangular overlight to the outer side of the elevation, and a margin-light sash window to the ground-floor room. A similarly detailed first-floor window opening is located centrally within each dwelling, with a narrower window, now blocked behind its sash frame, between the first floor windows. The openings have shallow segmental-arched heads, and there is a central brick chimney. The dwellings are of modest architectural interest and although they have considerable local significance as components of the Wormgate streetscape, they did not satisfy the criteria for statutory designation in 2011. {1}
