Full Description

The Blenkin Memorial Hall was opened in 1893 to commemorate Canon Blenkin of Boston. It is a public hall attached to Church House (PRN) and is a galleried meeting room now used for public meetings, educational and recreational classes. It is built of red brick with a plain tile pitched roof. The upper part of the walling has applied painted timber members and roughcast panels in imitation of timber-framing. The building has a single-storey with three gabled dormer windows to the front on Wormgate. There are three irregularly spaced doorways with four-centre arched heads and painted, moulded surrounds. The doorway at the right hand end of the building has an inscribed panel which reads ‘BLENKIN MEMORIAL HALL Ano Dni 1893’. Inside the building there is a full height, open plan hall with a galleried upper end. There is also a storage loft. The building contributes to the character and appearance of the Boston Conservation Area and the association with Canon Blenkin is of considerable local interest, but it is of modest architectural interest and did not satisfy the criteria for statutory designation in 2011. {1}
