Full Description

Parkland is recorded on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps, to the north and west of the Old Hall at Barholm. {1}{2} LIDAR imagery and satelite imagery show upstanding ridge and furrow earthworks suggesting the parkland has remained as such for a long period of time without intervention. {3}{4} Excavations for a scheme of soil extraction to reconstruct historic render which included local subsoils were undertaken in 2016 to repair the dovecote at The Old Hall {5}{6}. While features identified were not fully excavated, several linear features were recorded, one of which is on the same alignment as the ridge and furrow within the parkland. Pottery of 11th to 12th century date was recovered from the southernmost ditch during this excavation.
