Full Description

A former vicarage, now a house, built on the site of Freiston Priory and possibly incorporating some earlier stonework from the priory (see PRN 12764). The building is late 16th century and 17th century, with early 18th and early 19th century alterations. It is built in red brick with ashlar quoins and an ashlar band. It has a plain and clay tiled roof with brick coped tumbled gables and kneelers. The rear range is 16th century, while the front range is a 17th century addition refronted in about 1720. Inside there is late 16th century dogleg staircase beneath which is a small cellar with stone walls, possibly a remnant of the priory. The property was held by the King following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It was disposed of between 1714 and 1729 to the Dryden family, which may date the re-fronting.
