Full Description
During trial trenching in April and July 1997 at South Square, Boston, Pre-Construct Archaeology revealed an east to west aligned limestone wall and floor which were associated with 13th to 15th century pottery and animal bone in Trench One. In Trench Two, evidence of a series of medieval superimposed timber structures fronting South Square, late 12th to 14th century gullies, post holes and pits whioch contained pottery including five rare Islamic pottery sherds, and a 12th to 13th century shell processing horizon. Finds included within this horizon were early to mid 13th century century pottery, mussel, cockle and periwinkle shells, animal bones and leather shoe offcuts. {1}{2}
